Tanning after Getting a Tattoo

If you can’t avoid being in the sun while your tattoo is still healing, remember to keep it covered.  Use a cloth to cover the area or a dry bandage will so do the trick for small areas. Even the rays streaming in through a car window can be strong.  To get the best results with your tattoo, avoid the sun the first couple of weeks.  After that, remember to apply sun block liberally to the area.  Exposure to the sun will blur and fade your tattoo.  Beach Scene

Good sun block is available in the form of easy to apply sticks and roll-ons which make it easy to keep with you at all times.  The small applicators work well for covering detailed work.

If using artificial tanning, such as Mystic Tan, you can cover your healed tattoo liberally with petroleum jelly, such as Vaseline or A & D ointment, then wipe it off about a half an hour after applying the tanning solution. This will keep the rest of you dark, while keeping your tattoo bright and fresh looking.
